Term 1 News 2009/10
Enterprise Week
The last week of the first term was taken up by Enterprise activities. Here are a few things that we did.

Secondary pupils began work on the concert scenery.

Secondary 1 and 2 made, packaged and marketed chocolates.

Upper Primary pupils helped Nursery and Lower Primary pupils make bannocks for their snack - although there were pelnty for everyone. We also churned milk to make our own butter.

Lower Primary also went hentin' tatties (lifting potatoes).

Upper Primary produced a bok of Makaton signs for the Nursery.
The European Day of Language Murder Mystery (!)
Friday 25th September was also European Day of Language, and pupils gathered in the French room only to have Mr Thomson stagger in claiming he'd been stabbed! Teams then had to use clues about other countries and languages to find the identity of the murderer. For more see the European Day of Language website. PS. Mr Thomson later made a full recovery.
PPS As every Scooby Doo fan would know, it was the janitor who did it - and he would have got away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids.
MacMillan Coffee Morning
Friday 25th September was MacMillan Coffee Morning. Pupils had been preparing for this during the week with Mrs Anna Niven, our new patr-time cookery teacher. We took in £260.61 - thansk to everyone who attended and contributed. MacMillan is a charity that provides cancer support - for more details see the MacMillan website. House teams
This year every pupil has been placed in house teams and points will be awarded throughout the year, not just at sports days and swimming galas. The three teams are named after Unst islands - Uyea, Balta and Flugga.
New headteacher
We all returned from our holidays in August to the announcement that Mrs Anne O'Neill, formerly HE and Guidance teacher at the school, had been appointed the new head teacher.
